Rochdale Borough School Games Partnership is pleased to offer our partner schools free entry to a wide range of competitions and festivals throughout the academic year 2021 - 2022 Non-member schools can enter at a charge of £50 per event for some events.

Please check eligibility carefully with regard to numbers, gender and ages of team members as we endeavour to adhere to the qualifying rules to produce eligible teams. If you cannot meet the eligibility this does not preclude you for entering and taking part, but may stop you from being able to progress in the competition.

Schools that are registered with ‘your school games’ should update their profile when you have played at a competition as this provides evidence for your school if you wish to apply for the school games kite ‘mark’.

2022 – 2023

Vision

By 2020 the School Games will be continuing to make a clear and meaningful difference to the lives of even more children and young people.

 

Characteristics

The next phase of development of the School Games will focus on ensuring it is relevant to more children and young people and their lives today and allows more of them to achieve their potential. In driving this forward the School Games will seek to:

1. Engender a sense of competence

2. Promote enjoyment

3. Avoid negative or bad experience

 

PRINCIPLES OF COMPETITION

1. The young person's motivation, competence and confidence are the centre of the competition.

2. The focus is on the process rather than the outcome (on the learning and values of the young person rather than the result).

3. Volunteers, leaders and officials are appropriately trained and display behaviours reflective of the nature of the competition.

4. The environment is safe and creates opportunities to learn and maximise social development.

5. The facility and the environment that is created for the competition reflects the motivations competence and confidence of the young people and format of the competition.

 

As a team Rochdale Borough School Games we have chosen to make several changes to our competitions and events for 2019 – 2020 to try and achieve the vision and characteristics of the School Games Programme moving forward and these changes are highlighted below.

 

RELEVANT competitions for THE RELEVANT children

 

Excel: These competitions will target at those young people who may be involved with sports in school and at clubs. Participation in these events will follow the L1, L2, L3 competition pathway with the winners in the Level 2 competitions representing their borough at the Level 3, Greater Manchester competition.

Engage: These competitions are designed for young people who may take part in school sport; however, they do not participate in clubs outside of school. Events will utilise a Spirit Scorecard, that will take into account the School Games values. The emphasis is on creating a positive and enjoyable experience for young people that will not be solely focused on winning. RBSGPs Skills Festivals will sit under this heading as well as BEE Proud.

Enjoy: These events are for young people who have not taken part in the School Games before and may not actively participate in sport and physical activity in or out of school. These events are designed where possible, to be fully inclusive, as such students with SEND can participate alongside their peers. The emphasis is on developing new skills, students achieving their personal bests, whilst fostering enjoyment and confidence.

All4Sport SEND: These competitions are designed exclusively for children and young people with SEND and provide a competitive opportunity for these young people. As with excel events, participation in these competitions at the Greater Manchester School Games requires qualification through level 2 competitions.

Rochdale School Games Champions: These are events that have proved popular in the past and may no longer form part of the pathway competitions to school games finals, this will be a dedicated finals day (apart from swimming) to decide the Rochdale Borough Schools Champions.

 

All of the above events will count towards your School Games Mark application for 2022 - 2023

 

Involving other children

There will be opportunities this year for other students to attend events and document your success/progress these may take the form of;
